There's so much to see and do in and around
Byron Bay and the surrounding area. You really
can have as active or as relaxing a holiday as you like.
One of the main attractions for all visitors, and locals too, has
to be the world-class beaches that stretch along the scenic coastline
made up of sensational surfing spots, tranquil inlets, secluded
beaches and rock formations. The coastline also features the most
easterly point in Australia at Cape Byron with the famous landmark
of Cape Byron Lighthouse viewable from most areas of the coastline.
The Byron Shire region is also well-known for its friendly and
easygoing atmosphere. This carries over into the surrounding
quaint townships which are the source of many home made products
which can be found amongst the local shops and especially at the
weekend markets. Each weekend the market rotates to a different
town in the Byron Shire region. Many people travel from surrounding
regions just to browse around the markets with their locally grown
produce and hand made goods.
Scenic drives and bush walking are also popular past times for
visitors to the area. There are lots of little village-like
towns set in beautiful countryside just a short drive from Byron Bay. There are lots of bushwalking opportunities
also in the hinterland areas to the west with walks ranging from
easy strolls to challenging day walks for experienced bushwalkers.
During the winter months whales migrate along the coastline and
can often be spotted if you're lucky enough to be in the right place
at the right time.
So whether your preference is for surfing, swimming, fishing, walking,
shopping, dining out or just relaxing, you'll be sure to have a
memorable and enjoyable stay in the Byron Shire region.
